Tipping and Entrapment Hazard: Canyon Furniture Recalls 1,200 Children's Chests of Drawers

Canyon Furniture is recalling about 1,200 Creekside Kids chests of drawers. If you purchased one of these chests between April 2020 and March 2021, it might fall under this recall — and it might fall over. According to a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall alert, the chests may be unstable if they’re not anchored to a wall, posing a tipping hazard.

According to the July 8 recall, the chests don’t comply with the performance requirements as outlined in the voluntary industry standard ASTM F2057-19. If the chests tip over, children may become trapped, which could result in death or serious injury. No such incidents or injuries had been reported as of the recall announcement.

This recall involves specifically the Creekside Kids Five-Drawer Chests. Affected chests have SKU number 34595035 or 34495045 and a manufacture date between April 2020 and March 2021 printed on a label on the back of the unit.

The chests were manufactured in Mexico and imported by Canyon Furniture Company of Seffner, Fla. They were sold at Rooms To Go stores and RoomsToGo.com for about $430.

If you own a recalled chest, the CPSC recommends you stop using it immediately and contact Canyon Furniture for a free repair or replacement. Consumers can also opt for a full refund of the purchase price in the form of Rooms To Go store credit.
