If you’re just about to put your feet up after a long day, you might want to take a look at your ottoman first. Meridian Furniture has recalled 7,800 velvet ottomans due to an injury hazard. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the metal band at the base of the ottoman may have sharp edges, posing a laceration risk. If you purchased one of these ottomans between June 2018 and October 2021, here's what you need to know.

According to the Oct. 27 recall alert, there have been six reports of laceration injuries due to a sharp edge on the metal band.

Only the Meridian Furniture Joy Velvet Ottomans or Stools are involved in this recall. They were manufactured in China and sold online at Amazon and Hayneedle, as well as in 200 stores nationwide, for $60 to $120. They were also sold online at Wayfair as the “Fredson 14.5-inch Wide Velvet Round Standard Ottoman.”

The CPSC is warning consumers to stop using the ottomans immediately. To get your refund, reach out to Meridian Furniture to receive a prepaid mailer and shipping label to return the product. If you choose not to mail back the product, you can also provide Meridian Furniture photographic evidence that you disposed of or destroyed the unit.
