3,600 Powerhorse Portable Generators Recalled Over Risk of Electric Shock
Northern Tool & Equipment has recalled Powerhorse 13000ES Portable Generators due to a wiring error that poses a risk of electrical shock. If you purchased one of these portable generators prior to September 2020, yours might be one of the 3,640 units recalled by the manufacturer. Read on to learn what you need to know.

According to the Burnsville, Minn.-based manufacturer, the affected Powerhorse 13000ES Portable Generators contain an incorrectly wired receptacle that may cause electrical shock if the unit is not appropriately grounded. This wiring issue affects the L5-30R 120V/30A receptacle, which is often used for RVs or at marinas.
The recall was announced Feb. 24. The affected generators bear the model number 799215. Locate the serial number on the left side of the lower frame and check it against the list of recalled generators here.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Northern Tool & Equipment has received one report of the wiring error, and no injuries have been reported. The portable generators were manufactured in China, and sold at Northern Tool & Equipment stores and online from July 2016 to September 2020, for around $1,850.
If your generator is affected by this recall, the CPSC recommends you immediately stop using the product and contact the manufacturer to schedule a free repair.

If you prefer to take your generator to a qualified technician of your choosing, Northern Tool & Equipment will reimburse up to $200 for repairs; coordinate reimbursement by calling Product Support.
