Before You Start

Before starting your mini-split AC maintenance routine, switch off the unit and turn the power off at the breaker to prevent electric shocks. You could also consider creating a mini-split AC maintenance kit to ensure you have all the equipment you need on hand.

1. Declutter

Mini-split ACs operate best in an uncluttered area free from shelves, bookcases and any other items on the surrounding walls. Regularly check the space around your mini-split unit, and move any furniture or wall art that could stop it from functioning correctly.

2. Remove Dust

Over time, dust can build up on your mini-split AC. If you don't remove the dust regularly, it can get inside the unit and damage the filter and other components. You can clean the outside of your air conditioner by wiping it with a damp cloth at least once per month. Add a few drops of dish soap to remove stubborn dirt and grime.

You'll need to dust the area around your mini-split unit at least twice per week to prevent dust from entering your system. Monitor the area daily, and remove dust as soon as you notice it.

3. Clean the Coils

Cleaning the condenser coils helps your mini-split AC run more efficiently and removes dirt and dust to improve indoor air quality.
